What Brexit could mean for your business
Half of the UK’s trade rests in the EU – a Brexit vote could see the remaining member states put up more of a fight when dealing with us. Even if your business isn’t tied up with Europe, you could be affected.
Industries like construction, engineering and IT are saturated with EU migrant workers who provide the economy with vital skills in short supply by our indigenous workforce. Immigrant workers also make up a substantial percentage of the unskilled, low paid work force that British citizens are reluctant to join. If these low paid workers leave because of a Brexit vote, the job market could see a shift with wages increasing to entice British citizens to fill vacant roles. Competition for workers with the skills in the industries above would also see a substantial rise, causing forced wage increases.
For the ordinary British company, already struggling following the economic crash, this could spell disaster as they spend more to retain workforces.
